WHAT IS THE GROWTH COUNCIL? A Partnership for Prosperity
The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council is the central economic development agency serving Lewiston and Auburn, Maine. It is a nonprofit public/private partnership that assists emerging and expanding businesses in the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, Maine. Historically the Growth Council's efforts have played a positive role in the decisions of many companies to locate in this community. The Growth Council is focused on fostering a business environment that enhances job opportunities and the local tax base.
SERVICES
Business Retention & Attraction
The Growth Council acts as a liaison with local, regional, and state development agencies, partners in securing adequate financing, or perhaps conducting confidential site searches for clients looking to relocate to Lewiston-Auburn. In addition, the Growth Council oversees a Foreign Trade Zone, markets the area’s transportation and logistics assets, and is seeking businesses that are exploring shipping alternatives for products entering and leaving the State of Maine.
Financing
Since its establishment in 1981, the Growth Council has leveraged over $60 million in new local investments through its comprehensive financing programs. Our experienced staff will creatively explore traditional and nontraditional resources to meet our clients’ financing needs for equipment purchases, real estate acquisitions, other fixed assets, and working capital. Some of our programs offer 100% financing, while others require various leverage thresholds. The Growth Council has a proven record of utilizing lending and packaging skills to leverage bank financing for businesses that were initially unable to access conventional credit.
Site Search Assistance
The Growth Council can help you to locate buildings and/or land that meet your exact specifications. In conjunction with the cities of Auburn and Lewiston, Maine, local real estate brokers, and private developers we will provide you with confidential site searches utilizing an extensive electronic database of available sites and facilities to expand your business in central Maine. Whatever your real estate needs may be, the Growth Council will help you make the right contacts.
Marketing
The Growth Council publicizes local businesses through media contacts, professional referrals, press releases, and special marketing projects such as the annual Androscoggin Business-to-Business Trade Show. We maintain a repository of up-to-date workforce and business climate information that is useful for our clients who are conducting market research and making presentations.
