The concept of recycling is not a
new one, and yet today, more than at any other time in history, it is
at the forefront of environmental concerns. D. R. Recycling Ltd. of 212
Edinburgh Drive in the Moncton Industrial Park has been a leader in
this field. Founded ahead of the trend 10 years ago, its vision has
resulted in a company well-equipped to attend to an increasing need in
today’s “green environment” to recycle waste. D. R. Recycling Ltd.
began its enterprise recycling just cardboard, but it has increased its
dimensions to include all grades of paper products including packaging
and magazines, and plastics such as containers, car bumpers, etc.
Servicing all of the Greater Moncton Area in a commercial and
industrial capacity, D. R. Recycling Ltd. has experienced significant
growth over the last few years. “Response to our business has been
great in all of Southeastern New Brunswick, especially with 2008 being
the year of “going green” for many businesses,” says General Manager
Stephen Shaffer, who is an environmental technician by trade.
D. R. Recycling Ltd.
provides a valuable service in the community in processing waste to be
shipped to re-processing centres within North America and overseas in
Asia including India and China. There, paper can be stripped of
contaminants and plastics can be pelletized for re-use. Independently
owned and locally operated, D. R. Recycling has grown from its initial
3 employees to a team of 12 members all passionate about their
enterprise. “We have already had one expansion and are looking to
expand further,” says Stephen Shaffer. “We are outgrowing our
boundaries, exploring new markets, and by thinking outside the box, we
have been able to keep costs down for our clientele. We have a great
network in place to retain contacts in the industry to achieve the best
value for our customers.”
D. R. Recycling Ltd. also conducts
waste audits for companies, pinpointing items for recycling in a bid to
cut costs to the customers by tailoring their services to each
company’s industrial needs. This can often result in an 80% reduction
in waste and a cost saving of 35% to 50%. Indeed, D. R. Recycling Ltd.
has enjoyed a great rapport with its customers and has been able to
widen its scope due in large part to suggestions and ideas from the
very companies they service. “Our volume is in direct response to the
economy,” says Stephen Shaffer, and that being the case, the volume of
recycling at D. R. Recycling Ltd. reflects well on the healthy
economical outlook for the Greater Moncton Area.
